I’m really excited to bring you something I have been working on and practicing for a while. Something that is very important to me! I present to you, the official Sleep Superhero training tool, the Seven Day Sleep Challenge! Brought to you by Sweet Dreams Mattress & Furniture of Lake Norman. We have your Game Plan for Better Sleep!
This Seven Day Sleep Challenge only takes a few minutes to fill out at the beginning of each week. It is a great practice of the habits proactivity, beginning with the end in mind, and putting first things first. Each of those aspects of the Sleep Challenge will raise your level of effectiveness.
The challenge doesn’t consume a ton of time throughout the day or require money. This is free!

Here’s how it works. There is a bedtime row and a wake-up time row. Write down your intended bedtime and wake-up time for the whole week on the row labeled ‘Planned.’ Then you write down your actual bedtime and wake-up time in the row labeled ‘Actual’.
At the end of the week, text your results to the Sleep Superhero cell phone to get your sleep cycles calculated! Three consecutive weeks of submitting your completed sleep challenge will earn you a free sleep maximizing product! And let me tell you there is some awesome stuff you can earn!
Before I go into that, let’s talk about strategy. When it comes to setting your bedtime and wake-up time, you need to plan for seven and a half hours or nine hours of sleep. Our sleep cycles average 90 minutes. Wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle and you will feel groggy. Wake up at the end of a sleep cycle and your eyes will snap wide open!
If you don’t know what is a good time to go to bed, then start with when you need to be awake. If you need to be awake by 6 a.m., dial it back seven and a half hours and you have a 10:30 p.m. bedtime. Not too shabby!
If you try this challenge and you are an athlete, a high-performance gamer, or anybody looking for big body and brain results, I highly recommend what I call The Lebron James and schedule yourself nine hours a night.
On the challenge sheet, there is also a place to write down a caffeine curfew which I note is optional. Let’s not fight about your caffeine habits. If caffeine is something you drink all day, try giving it a rest a few hours before bedtime.
For anybody looking to unlock superpowers, write down a curfew eight to twelve hours before your scheduled bedtime. There is also a line for screen time curfew which should be at least 30 minutes before bed. Try to give yourself 10 minutes if you’ve never really been good at unplugging before you fall asleep.
Last but not least, the daily victory task! Write down a small two-minute chore or exercise you can do immediately after you wake up before you check your phone! The minutes in the morning after you wake up are the most important ones of the day. It’s up to you to control those moments and get something done.
I rotate my victory task between tidying up shared spaces in our house like the kitchen and living room. Sometimes it’s my office too! The week I wrote this, I have a three-minute meditation as my victory task. I want to form a habit of clearing my mind so that’s what I’m doing this week.
So that’s it! That is the sleep challenge and I invite you to give it a shot. I know everybody is doing things already. It’s early in 2022 and we all have transformative New Year’s resolutions. Or maybe you already have a diet plan, workout routine, or a lifestyle you have been focused on for a while. I don’t want to interrupt or take your eye off that ball at all. Instead, I hope we can add a little catalyst to your growth.

And you don’t fail the challenge if you plan out a bedtime and never go to bed on time. You fail the challenge when you don’t fill out the boxes and text it in on time.
You may never follow your plan, but filling out the information is enough for me. And if you have a sleep tracker, it’s pretty easy to check when your tracker says you go to bed and wake up. I use a Google Hub Gen 2 to double-check my times. If you don’t have a sleep tracker, then put the challenge sheet on your nightstand or in your bathroom. Somewhere you will see it and fill it out real quick every day.
In the spirit of kicking this off right, I am going to challenge somebody out there in the unreal world. Somebody who I believe can greatly benefit from the sleep challenge and somebody who I admire a lot! I challenge Ted Lasso to the Seven Day Sleep Challenge.
Ted, you suffer from a condition that many people I talk to do. When you lay down to sleep and your brain keeps cooking. Those burners burn hotter than a Top Gun pilot pushing 4 G’s. Tons of people have a hard time cleaning up the mental kitchen and it takes an hour or more to fall asleep, if at all.
Well, Ted, that’s why we have a game plan. That is why we get intentional with what time we lay down. And your body knows your routine. We send signals to it and the wind-down process will begin.
Ted Lasso, when you are on an airplane and the oxygen masks fall down, you need to put yours on first. You need to be able to breathe so you can assist the person sitting beside you. And I see how much you care about other people. I’ve seen your coaching style. I’ve seen your attention to the people around you and the impact that has on them. Ted, you can’t be helping these people when you are exhausted!
Ted Lasso is a hero of mine because of his mindset. If you are not familiar with Ted Lasso, it’s an Apple TV show and he’s the main character. It’s a wonderful story and I love seeing his mindset and coaching style. That’s the kind of leadership this world needs right now! We all stand to learn a lot from a dude like Ted.
I hope to see some of you at Vegas Market or at PrimeTime 2022! I’ll be planning out my sleep for the trips so the time zone shift doesn’t get me. And I will most likely be staying up late a time or two.
Just because I am a Sleep Superhero doesn’t mean I’m perfect. But I can gameplan a little bit of a later bedtime when I know there are exciting things happening.
