The Culp Experience: How Speed, Innovation and Agility Define the Company Culture
Robert George Culp Jr.’s nickname was “Bullet,” but he wasn’t an actual gunslinger.
He earned his nickname after helping establish Culp Inc. as the best in the business for providing top-shelf upholstery fabric with the shortest turnaround time. Speed was his goal, and quality and service was his game.
In this episode, we sat down with current Culp CEO Robert George Culp IV, also known as “Iv” to the rest of the world, and Jeff Veach, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Culp, to discuss the secret sauce that has turned the company into an industry powerhouse.
It’s called Loom and I’m using it (a lot). You can create quick videos that are really easy to share via a link.
I mainly use it to send clear feedback to creative teams. We’ve been working on a series of product videos for Englander and with Loom I can explain exactly what needs changed and avoid the potential for confusing emails. Loom has a bubble on screen that records your face, so it personalizes the experience and adds a friendly-factor to all your feedback.

Dustin Schmidt with America’s Mattress gave customers a $300 Omaha Steak Family pack with any iComfort or Beautyrest Black. This idea drove traffic to his store because, let’s face it, people like meat. And good mattresses.
You can do this at your store, too. Offer a $300 Omaha Steaks gift card with any purchase of a specific high-dollar item. Or better yet, partner with a local butcher to support small businesses. Try to move a specific mattress model and market the giveaway with a gift card.

This is Mark and Mark’s advice column and it’s bound to get weird.
Everyone needs a little advice now and then.
You can ask us anything. Just don’t expect an obvious answer. Launching a new marketing campaign and need feedback? We’ve got your back. Naming your first born son? No problem. Trying to break the world record for most sprinkles on an ice cream cone? We know a guy.
