Casper CMO, COO and CTO Out As Company Makes Latest Round of Layoffs

Casper has laid off its chief marketing officer, chief technology officer, and chief operating officer, as well as dozens of others, in its latest round of layoffs communicated to employees on Friday, Sept. 10.

The three executives were all recent additions to the team as former CTO Ben Clark had been with the company since July 2019, former CMO Lisa Pillette joined Casper in March 2020, and former COO Charles Liu had only been at the company for eight months before this layoff.

In April 2020, Gregory Macfarlane, Casper’s CFO and COO at the time, left the company and interim CFO Stuart Brown stood in. He resigned three months later and the latest CFO, Michael Monahan, started in the position on August 31, 2021. Monahan will keep his job through this round of layoffs.

And Casper has been making cuts all over the place—first shutting down its European operations a year ago, cutting 21% of its global workforce, and then temporarily closing many of its retail stores impacted by the DTC channel.

However, they also recently announced that they’re pushed further into retail by partnering with 287-unit Sleep Country Canada, making Casper the largest Canadian distribution platform to date.

The partnership will begin in October and Casper’s mattresses are sold across Sleep Country’s brick-and-mortar stores and through the retailer’s e-commerce platform.

Those are two huge moves for Casper, and time will tell how they reorganize the company over the next year. We’ll keep you in the know about any other updates and changes the company announces.
