The FAM partnered with Nationwide Marketing Group to survey 2,000+ recent mattress buyers and found that 72% of respondents said buying local is important.
One problem…
Out of the people who said buying local is important, 52% reported purchasing from large chain retailers or online.
What can you do?
Make sure everyone in your market knows what it means to be a local business and why shopping at your store is better. Build value in everything you do and don’t be afraid to think of creative ways to stand out!

Here’s an idea…
Host in-store classes! Lowe’s and Home Depot are known for their Saturday morning wood working or gardening classes. Throngs of parents bring their early-rising children into stores on Saturday for a free kit on how to build a bird house or plant basil or tomatoes.
Offer classes on how to decorate with items you already have in your house—or how to freshen up those dated spaces on a budget. Showcase newly arrived furniture and how to style it in a variety of rooms and styles. Offer a coffee bar and invite children to come “test out” the products (don’t serve coffee to kids…unless their parents make you mad).
